Michael Liu
Michael Liu is a singer-songwriter/pianist/French horn player/arranger/producer/engineer based in Taiwan, R.O.C. Michael is currently working as a freelance writer for musical, a Capella arranging, film and commercial music productions, and vocal album productions. Michael grew up in a non-musical family, however his passion and talent in music was obvious when he started playing the piano at age 5. He studied classical music from elementary school to high school with a principal in Piano, a minor in French horn, and an interest in singing. With solid skills in music theory, ear training, orchestra and chamber music, he soon performed frequently with professional orchestras as a French horn player and played in various ensembles as a pianist and singer in many places and music halls, such as Jhihde Hall, Cultural Center for audiences up to 3,000 including the Mayor of Kaohsiung City. In 2010 he was invited to be a second principle horn player to perform alongside principal French horn player, Gred Seisert, in the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. On both French horn and piano he has won numerous national and international performance competitions.
To further his education, Michael attended Berklee College of Music to study both Songwriting & Contemporary Writing and Production. He was awarded the Berklee achievement scholarship and has been very active arranging, producing, recording and working with many other students’ projects, co-writes, auditions, competitions, and attending career events and master classes outside of school. Berklee has advance him towards becoming a professional musician who can accompany himself on the piano and guitar, write songs in every genre, and provided skills in arranging and producing.
As a composer, Michael has been commissioned by Dojo, iZotope Studio and Berklee College of Music to write and produce a song for Dojo Cancer Project. In 2015, he won the Presidential Education Award by writing the new theme song for the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, R.O.C., was chosen as a finalist for Taiwan Mobile original ringtone competition, and won the On Leng Association’s 110-anniversary new anthem song competition, getting invited twice to perform for their charity dinner. Michael was also the winner of 2017 and 2018 Taiwan original pop music competition and was invited to perform on the promoting concerts of the competition. Recently, Michael has won the first place of Pingtung Hakka songwriting competition. He started becoming a member of a famous local Hakka band in Taiwan, New San-geu-tai Band, as a songwriter/arranger/pianist in 2021. In music productions, Michael has collaborated with multiple music companies working on music for dramas, movies, musicals, and live concerts. The most recent work he has done is the movie, “Till We Meet Again”, which has just released in July 2021.
